The entire cricket fraternity was left mourning as Australian cricket legend Shane Warne passed away aged 52 on Friday (March 04). Warne breathed his last after suffering a suspected heart attack in Thailand. One of the greatest spinners of all time, Warne was the first bowler to take 700 wickets in Test cricket and holds numerous other records. Here is a look at five top records held by the Aussie cricket icon.

2nd highest wicket-taker in Test cricket
Shane Warne holds the record for taking the second-highest amount of wickets in Tests. Warne played 145 Test matches in his career and picked up 708 wickets at an excellent average of 25.41. He scalped a staggering 10 ten wicket-hauls and 37 five-wicket hauls in his Test career.

Most Test wickets in a calendar year
Shane Warne was at the peak of his prowess in the year 2005 when he ran through batting line-ups for fun. Warne played 15 Test matches in 2005 and finished with a whopping 96 wickets – the most by any bowler in a calendar year. 17 years later his record is yet to be broken by anyone.

First bowler to reach 700 Test wickets
Shane Warne was the first bowler in the world to complete the milestone of 700 wickets in Test cricket. He is also the second fastest to achieve the feat behind only Muralitharan, who reached the feat in 113 Test matches compared to the Aussie’s 144 games.

2nd most 10-wicket hauls in Tests
Shane Warne picked up ten 10-wicket hauls in his Test career – the second-highest by any bowler in the world. Muralitharan tops the list of most ten-wicket hauls having achieved the feat a stunning 22 times in his career.

Shane Warne was the first captain to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. He led Rajasthan Royals to their maiden IPL triumph in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.
